Bangani Mpangalasane

Bangani Jeffrey Mpangalasane has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of The Innovation Hub (TIH), a strategic entity of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency and the Gauteng Department of Economic Development. Tasked with advancing technology innovation across Gauteng, TIH aims to propel the province to the forefront of scientific and technological progress.

Mr. Mpangalasane, 41, stepped into his new role on April 2, 2024, bringing with him over fifteen years of extensive experience in global and local innovation and strategic management. His career has spanned state-owned enterprises and both private and public sectors, allowing him to gain a deep understanding of innovation ecosystems across countries like Germany, India, the USA, and China.

Throughout his career, Mr. Mpangalasane has held influential roles in notable organizations, including Telkom, Tech Mahindra, Novartis SA, Fiat Chrysler Automobile, the National Department of Military Veterans, the Small Enterprise Development Agency, and the Department of Justice. Prior to joining TIH, he served as the Chief Operations Officer of Pikitup, where he led the optimization of operations and ensured regulatory compliance for the City of Johannesburg’s waste management agency.

Holding an MBA with a focus on innovation and governance from North-West University, Mr. Mpangalasane is currently advancing his studies as a PhD candidate at the same institution. His expertise in strategic management and innovation positions him well to lead The Innovation Hub into a new era of technological advancement.
